The new world view of Kopernikus

The old world view around 1450

  • the earth is flat
  • wheels drive the sun, stars, and the moon
  • the earth is the center of all stars
  • the earth is surrounded by a cover

Kopernikus's world view

  • the earth is round
  • the earth is neither surrounded by a cover nor is it the center of the universe
  • the sun is a fixed star and the lifegiving center
  • stars, moons, and planets revolve around the sun on distinct trajectories
